A car-mounted wireless FM transmitter that adds phone streaming to an older car radio. It plugs into the 12V accessory socket, pairs with your phone, and plays music, podcasts and sat nav directions through the car speakers on a spare FM frequency, so you get the convenience of Bluetooth without replacing the head unit.
Type: wireless FM transmitter
Power: car accessory socket
Style: Style 1
Fitment: suits any car or van with an FM radio and an accessory socket. Check the listing details for the Bluetooth version, screen, charging ports and any memory card or USB playback before ordering.
Practical tip: scan the FM band for an empty frequency with no local station, or you will get hiss and crosstalk; in a different part of the country you may need to retune. Pair the phone and set the volume before you set off, and let it reconnect automatically after that so you never touch the phone at the wheel. Using a hand-held phone while driving carries 6 penalty points and a £200 fine. See our first car checklist.
